Transition over for the Royal Palace of Carditello, it will be a museum. The mission for the Caserta site of the new director Russo.

From a symbol of rebirth after decades of neglect, to the reappropriation of its natural dimension as a cultural asset, finally open to the public in all its spaces. This is a crucial step for the Bourbon Palace of Carditello, located in San Tammaro in the Caserta area, now ready to reclaim its role as a museum and cultural center in an area previously known only for environmental degradation.

This is the main objective of Giuseppe Russo, general director of the Real Sito di Carditello Foundation since June 15th.

"Compared to the past - explains Russo - There will be a break in continuity in the sense that the Royal Palace will become a truly accessible cultural asset, a landmark for the area, offering high-quality services for reception and enjoyment, including information and refreshment points and everything already available in other museums. Specifically, the Royal Palace will be handed over to us by the Superintendency after restoration, presumably by next December. We will then adapt it to become a museum space, and it will finally be open to visitors this summer. The restoration of the Tempietto at the center of the racetrack should also be completed by summer 2023. With more museum spaces, - adds Russo We will also be able to continue the process of requesting Carditello's possessions, scattered throughout other museums. These are six hundred historical items, including paintings, furniture, and tapestries.

Our technical office, after having already brought the altarpiece back in May, is now starting recovery operations, starting with the paintings currently in Moscow, Capodimonte, and the Royal Palace of Caserta.

The horse museum will also need to be built and the existing agricultural museum will need to be reorganized. Furthermore, work on the two major, already-funded restoration projects, which concern the front section, should be completed by the end of 2023. - amount of 7 million euros - and the rear section, for a total of €5 million. Specifically, the front area will house tourist services, as well as areas for high-value services, such as the headquarters of the Land Reclamation Consortium and the Region's environmental monitoring center. Behind it, however, will be the technical services for the horses (50 Persian horses are housed there, ed.), our stables, and those for the Carabinieri.. More space and services also require a reorganization of the workforce, with an increase in employees, and better logistics around the Real Site.

"Soon, within a couple of months at most. - Russo underlines - We will present the new organizational chart to the Board of Directors.

Numerous roles are needed, such as maintenance workers, administrative staff, and receptionists, and we hope to see an increase in direct funding for this purpose. Currently, the Ministry of Culture and the Campania Region are providing us with €300 per year for management, while the regional body is providing €200.

Russo also reports that discussions are underway with the municipalities in the area "to implement public lighting"; "while with our funds - continues - We are thinking of intervening on the road signs and internal lighting."

The Royal Palace is also involved in projects envisaged by the CIS (Institutional Development Contract), including the cycle path that would connect Carditello with the nearby La Balzana property confiscated from the Camorra.

In the meantime, however, the Reggia built by Collecini is already becoming a cultural point of reference for the area, with its festival that closed a few days ago, which recorded an average of one thousand spectators per event, with peaks of almost 4 thousand for the concert by Riccardo Cocciante.

"We have also achieved great results in terms of valorisation, reputation and visibility - Russo rejoices - and this thanks to the support of the Campania Region and Scabec, without which it would not have been possible to organize the event".

Russo's goals also include strengthening relationships with schools, with a program of events and a catalog for school leaders, educational workshops, and guided tours, and with the University.

"Carditello - says Russo - dIt will become the beating heart of environmental monitoring with the new regional Observatory, which SMA Campania is creating in collaboration with the Vanvitelli University, and the experimental center for large animal surgery.
