The Neapolitan Opera Buffa Festival, created with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture and produced by the cultural association Giano Bifronte in collaboration with Teatro Pubblico Campano and Casa del Contemporaneo, returns with a second edition entitled “L'infedeltà Fedele”, curated by artistic director Massimiliano Sacchi. From 2 to 6 November, the Sala Assoli, in Vico Lungo Teatro Nuovo 110, and the Teatro Nuovo, in via Montecalvario 16, will host melologues and little operas on their stages, which, through the edition of forgotten manuscripts and with free and unfaithful stagings, will propose modern versions of the masterpieces of 700th-century Neapolitan musical theatre and will often prove to be world premieres.

In this edition, “L'amante ridicolo” by Niccolò Piccinni returns for the first time to play at the Teatro Nuovo where it debuted in 1757, “La zingaretta” by Leonardo Leo is played by the audience as the author wrote it, while “Livietta + Tracollo” by Pergolesi is dressed in electronic sounds showing all its modernity. The Neapolitan Opera Buffa Festival enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of Naples, Naples Metropolitan City and Naples City of Music.

The project and the program were illustrated to the press in the spaces of the Cafè San Carlo – Teatro di San Carlo by Ferdinando Tozzi, delegate of the Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi for the music and audiovisual industry; Paolo Nappi, president of the cultural association Giano Bifronte; Massimiliano Sacchi, artistic director of the Neapolitan Opera Buffa Festival; Alfredo Balsamo, general director of the Teatro Pubblico Campano; Igina di Napoli, artistic director of the Casa del Contemporaneo; Claudio Di Palma, theatrical coordination. Product of a very lively cultural environment with ancient roots, Neapolitan opera buffa returns to the Spanish Quarters, where it historically established itself, becoming a major attraction for all social classes who crowded the “Teatro Nuovo sopra Toledo” every evening.

Opening the program on Wednesday, November 2, at 20.30:3 p.m. (repeats: Thursday, November 20.00, at 4:12.00 p.m. and Friday, November 700, at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.), in Sala Assoli will be the operetta “La zingaretta”, an intermezzo by Leonardo Leo. Transcription and arrangement by Fabrizio Romano. The vaudeville of the XNUMXth century in its faithful infidelity. Leonardo Leo, one of the founders of the Neapolitan School, wrote tirelessly throughout his life with a lively eye, a fiery temperament and a very fine sense of theater. Thursday, November 3, at 12.00:4 (repeat: Friday, November 20.00, at 21.15:700), the Sala Assoli will host the operetta “Livietta+Tracollo”, an interlude by Giovan Battista Pergolesi elaborated in electronic music. Transcription and arrangement by Dario Bassolino. Pergolesi in electronic version shines in the dynamism of his melodies. In the continuous inventiveness of music, desire, identity, love and its disguises play at the table of the Multiple. On stage, Costanza Cutaia (Liviella), Takaki Kurihara (Tracollo) and the dancers Lukas Lizama and Sara Lupoli. Directed by Rosario Sparno. Synth programming: Dario Bassolino. Fx and electronics: Paolo Petrella. Marco Palumbo at the harpsichord. At XNUMX:XNUMX, the Teatro Nuovo will stage the melodrama “Teoria del fascino. On jettatura” by and with Eugenio Bennato and Le Voci del Sud. In the midst of the liveliest cultural flourish, XNUMXth century Naples gave birth to the term and concept of jettatura. The booklet that circulated and defined the “charm of the gaze” was “La Cicalata” and Eugenio Bennato's text draws on this.

Friday, November 4, at 21.15:5 p.m., at the Teatro Nuovo (repeat: Saturday, November 21.15, at 1757:XNUMX p.m.) the operetta “L'amante ridicolo” will be performed, an intermezzo by Niccolò Piccinni, which, in the transcription and arrangement by Carlo Gargiulo and Massimiliano Sacchi, presents itself as an absolute modern premiere. The rediscovered Piccinni, a Neapolitan “Così fan tutti” rediscovered among forgotten manuscripts, returns to resonate at the Teatro Nuovo where it debuted way back in XNUMX. On stage, Cristina Neri (Dorilla), Chiara Di Girolamo (Lesbina), Francesco Domenico Doto (Baggiano), Luca De Lorenzo (Polemone). Directed by Alfonso Postiglione. Conductor and piano by Carlo Gargiulo. Musicians: Sergio Carnevale (violin), Ilaria Carbone (violin), Roberto Bianco (viola), Vittorio Infermo (cello), Diego Di Guida (oboe), Emmanuele Puxeddu (oboe), Luca Martingano (horn) and Dennis Marzano (horn).

Saturday, November 5, at 12:6 (repeat Sunday, November 12.00, at 19.00:1), at the Teatro Nuovo, the melodrama “Cimmarosa” by and with Claudio Di Palma, with the participation of the Orchestra Sinfonica dei Quartieri Spagnoli, is scheduled. The adventurous and paradoxical tale of Cimarosa’s last days in Naples before his capture and final exile, when, to escape the fury of Cardinal Ruffo, he took refuge in the understage area of ​​the Teatro del Fondo, and the adventures that followed. At 20.00:6, at the Teatro Nuovo, the meeting “Words & Music: on Beckett and the opera buffa” is scheduled with Gabriele Frasca, poet, scholar and translator of Beckett who will guide the audience to the discovery of the intense and unexpected relationship of the great Irish writer with the opera buffa (symbolic admission fee: 18.00 euro). At 600:XNUMX p.m. (repeat on Sunday, November XNUMX, at XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.), at Sala Assoli, the audience will watch the melodrama “La principessa dei bordelli” by Francesco Forlani, performed by Isa Danieli. The rise and fall of Giulia De Caro, princess of the brothels and theater impresario, rebellious and glamorous diva of Neapolitan theater at the end of the XNUMXth century.
