In Naples on Metro line 1 the new train debuts. The frequency is 12 minutes. In the depot 10 more new trains to be tested
From today, citizens of Naples who use the metro line 1 will be able to encounter and travel on the new train.
Today the first trip, from the Municipio stop to Garibaldi, with the mayor, Gaetano Manfredi, some members of the Council and the top management of ANM on board. Citizens and tourists boarded at Garibaldi and so the train was officially 'delivered' and made available to the citizens.
With the commissioning, there are 7 trains on the line and the frequency goes from 14 to 12 minutes. The new vehicle has a capacity of 1250 people while the current ones carry 800 on board.
“A new era begins – said the municipal councilor for Transport, Edoardo Cosenza – it is not only a question of reducing the frequency time, which tends to become European, but also of the reliability of the vehicle and therefore we will no longer have sudden breakdowns".
The new trains are equipped with air conditioning and have been designed to occupy the entire platform.
“They are safer trains also with regards to boarding and disembarking operations. – explained Vincenzo Orazzo, director of the Anm metropolitan lines – both the comfort and safety features are greatly improved and given the capacity, the hourly transport capacity also increases”.
The administration hopes to be able to put another train on the line before the end of the year. In Naples, in fact, there are already 10 trains present and in the depots, another 9 are ready in Spain and the Municipality has ordered another 5.
"We'll have – Cosenza underlined – in a short time 24 trains that added to the 6 old ones means having a frequency of 3 minutes, times that we will gradually reach”. With the entry into service of the new trains, the new Anm staff will gradually enter service. The councilor hopes to be able to reduce testing times, “while maintaining safety standards”, which range between 30 and 45 days for each train.
“I will personally go to Rome to discuss this issue – the councilor reported – but we must also keep in mind that we are simultaneously working on testing line 6″.
