Thus in his speech, delivered in Italian, Albert II of Monaco in Monteverde, the municipality of Eastern Irpinia that belonged to the Grimaldi family from 1532 to 1581, where he was welcomed by the mayor, Antonio Vella, together with the institutional and political authorities of Campania.

Prince Albert, accompanied by a Monegasque delegation, yesterday stopped at other historical sites of the noble family of Genoese origin in Puglia and Basilicata after arriving by plane at Foggia airport. Upon his arrival in Monteverde he was welcomed by Mayor Vella, the President of the Region, Vincenzo De Luca, and numerous mayors of Irpinia.
Before the official ceremony held in the Monteverde Castle, the same one where the Marquis Onorato Grimaldi, his ancestor, lived, Alberto unveiled the plaque of the Association of Historic Sites and stopped to greet the young students. He willingly took many selfies with the citizens who, together with the musical band, awaited his arrival.
The protocol did not include a meeting with the numerous journalists and television crews present, but there was an unscheduled event when the sovereign stopped to taste the typical products of Monteverde: jams, cheeses and craft beer. After lunch, consumed in a restaurant in Monteverde together with the authorities, the promise and an invitation, the same one addressed to the communities of the other historical sites: “We will increasingly strengthen our relations. I look forward to seeing you in the Principality in June.”
