Two volunteer doctors were verbally attacked last night while carrying out HIV tests at the headquarters of Antinoo Arcigay Naples.
This was announced by the association's board of directors, which is asking for the reactivation of the Interinstitutional Round Table with Common and Police Headquarters of Napoli. “Yesterday evening, a person showed up at the Antinoo Arcigay Napoli headquarters while the usual appointment with rapid HIV and syphilis tests was underway – the activists explain -. The person, hostile from the first moment, repeatedly threatened the doctors present with sexist and homophobic epithets.
After being asked several times to leave – and after a series of calls to 112 that received no response – the person left the Association’s headquarters, keeping promotional material with him and having written down the name of one of the doctors in a notebook. This morning, with the support of our legal office, a complaint will be filed with the competent authorities”.
“The association's board of directors, while expressing its utmost solidarity with the two doctors who perform – on a voluntary and free basis – a useful and valuable service for the entire LGBT community, considers it unacceptable that people who volunteer in the neighborhood are exposed to risks and dangers without any surveillance system”, underlines the association.
Hence the request for “reactivate the Interinstitutional Table between the Municipality of Naples, Associations and the Central Police Headquarters established specifically to monitor hate crimes related to sexual orientation and gender identity and to support and guarantee the safety of places where the LGBT+ community gathers”. In the next few days, moreover, “precisely to safeguard the safety of those who frequent the association, the video surveillance system present in the association's premises will be strengthened”.
