The package, which also contained threats, was found in the offices of the local health authority. The news was released during the 79th Fimmg national congress underway in Villasimius (Cagliari).

“On my own behalf, but also on behalf of the entire Fimmg board, I express solidarity with Dr. Gennaro Volpe for the deplorable episode of which he was the victim,” said the general secretary of the Italian Federation of General Practitioners, Silvestro Scotti.

“An event that has greatly shaken all of us colleagues in general medicine – Scotti underlined – casting a shadow of suffering on this event that every year sees us working for a close comparison, between self-criticism, just claims and new proposals to make general medicine evolve and, therefore, to protect the health of citizens”.

Solidarity and support were also expressed by the president of the Order of Physicians of Naples, Bruno Zuccarelli, who defined what happened to Volpe as “extremely serious”. “The friendship and esteem that have bound me to him for years – continued Zuccarelli – makes me live with great anguish these vile threats.

However, I am also certain that our treasurer will continue to hold the bar straight, with the precise intent of fully realizing the mandate that has been assigned to him and guaranteeing the citizens of Benevento the best possible assistance. We will always be at his side and I am certain that the institutions will make the same presence felt", he concluded.
