He was "the captain of Napoli" and for this reason "he must be treated". And so to Giuseppe Bruscolotti, former defender of Maradona's Napoli, the camorra and in particular the Volpe group from the Fuorigrotta neighbourhood had applied a usury rate of 20%, – defined as “benevolent” while usually it was 40%. A discount for the football faith because “it was the captain of Napoli”.
This also emerges from the statements of the collaborator of justice,Gennaro Carra, former clan leader in the Carabinieri investigations into the usury ring discovered in Fuorigrotta who have to execute eleven precautionary measures this morning. According to investigators, however, in reality the Camorra would have demanded dizzying annual rates, above 40%, from the former footballer, manager of a betting agency in the Fuorigrotta neighborhood, who ended up in a state of need.
The former flag of the Napoli he allegedly asked the Volpe criminal family (which deals with betting and usury) for 65 thousand euros, against which he would have had to pay, initially 2400-2600 euros per month, although later the installment was set at around a thousand euros per month. The collaborator of justice Gennaro Carra speaks about the usury network: a rather large ring, with numerous victims, including the former blue flag Bruscolotti.
But he would have asked – Carra reports – for even more substantial sums.“I remember – says the 'repentant' – that once I saw Peppe Bruscolotti, the former footballer, captain of Napoli, in the 'basso' of Volpe Antonio. In front of me Bruscolotti handed an envelope to Volpe. When he left Volpe opened the envelope and started counting some money. The sum was 5000 euros. I asked Volpe for an explanation and he told me that he had lent 140 thousand euros to Bruscolotti and that he paid back 5000 euros per month.
He told me that Bruscolotti paid 20% interest. I don't know if this interest was to be calculated on the total sum per year or per month. Volpe also told me that the loan had been used by Bruscolotti to open a betting agency.... I commented to Volpe that the interest rate applied was benevolent, and Volpe replied that he had done it because he was the captain of Napoli".
Bruscolotti asked to postpone payments during the pandemic
In another conversation intercepted by the Carabinieri in May 2020, during the pandemic, Bruscolotti asks the son of Antonio Volpe to allow him to postpone a payment due to the difficulties linked to the fact that the betting centre, precisely because of the Covid, remained closed.
