This afternoon, at the conference room of the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Caserta, Colonel Manuel Scarso presented the 2023 edition of the Historical Calendar of the Carabinieri and the editorial initiatives connected to it.
The Provincial Commander, in the presence of the journalists present, illustrated the twelve tables of the work, this year created by the Armando Testa Group graphics company, a leader in the world of communication, accompanied by the texts of the journalist and writer Mario Tozzi. The central theme, Nature.
The General Commander, Gen. CA Teo Luzi, had unveiled the now long-awaited editorial product to the general public. The famous television and radio host Amadeus was present to present the work, created by a visionary graphics company, leader in the world of communication: the Armando Testa Group, in the splendid setting of the Auditorium Parco della Musica.
The protagonist of the 2023 Historical Calendar is Nature, which has always been one of the absolute priorities of the Force. Just think that already in the Royal Patents of 1816, in chapter V, no. 34, we read textually: arrest those who destroy woods, or any crops in the countryside, as well as all those who were found in the act of destroying roads, trees planted along them, hedges, ditches, and the like, […].
In a context where the environment is the most precious resource to be safeguarded, the 2023 edition was entirely dedicated to environmental protection.
Committed every day to the defense of people, the planet and prosperity, the Arma carries out a daily work of prevention and repression of environmental and forestry crimes, protecting the landscape, woods, flora and fauna and combating waste-related crimes. The commitment of the Carabinieri does not stop at the prevention and repression of crimes and illegality with an environmental impact, but considers continuous dialogue with the new generations to be equally fundamental.
A concern, that towards those who will come after us, which has found its place in the text of the new article 9 of our Constitution, dedicated to the protection of the environment, biodiversity and ecosystems, thus inscribing, among the fundamental principles that must regulate our coexistence, the path of sustainability in the interest of future generations. We also owe them the protection of what comes to us from the environment and, for this reason, every day somewhere there is a Carabiniere who is working to defend the quality, authenticity and healthiness of our agri-food chains.
This incessant work of protecting the territory inspired the creative insight of the 2023 Historical Calendar, which today also saw the presence and criticism on stage of Alberto Fiz, journalist, director of the MARCA Museum of Catanzaro, art critic, exhibition curator.
The entire project bears the signature of the Armando Testa agency with the unmistakable style that has made synthesis, visual paradox and image research its stylistic hallmark for decades.
Each of the artistic tables of the calendar starts from an element belonging to the visual universe of the Carabinieri, revisited and interpreted in an iconic key. The aim is to tell the themes related to the daily work of the force with a touch of elegance, formal cleanliness and visual synthesis that accentuates the institutional component.
Thus were born the twelve stages of a journey that reveals the important action of the Carabinieri in defense of the environment and the territory of the country, in protection of our fauna and flora heritage, in safeguarding an agri-food civilization that the world envies us.
The artistic tables of Armando Testa, with the executive creative direction of Michele Mariani, are accompanied by 12 stories of commitment and environmental protection signed by an exceptional storyteller: the journalist and writer Mario Tozzi. First Researcher of the CNR, geologist and science communicator, the famous radio and television host has recounted the events, activities and projects of the Arma dei Carabinieri in a rigorous and engaging way.
For the first time in the history of the Historical Calendar of the Carabinieri, the 2023 edition evolves into an artistic project integrated with a complete digital ecosystem that includes a dedicated website www.calendario.carabinieri.it and an NFT artwork.
The site allows you to enjoy the contents of the 2023 Calendar online in an interactive way, with a very intuitive experiential level that, through infinite scrolling, takes up the physical gesture of browsing, adapting it natively to digital language.
To complete the project, for the first time in the history of the Carabinieri, the cover of the Calendar becomes an NFT, a contemporary work of crypto art extracted from the physical Calendar and made digital, animated, certified. The NFT transforms the cover into a hi-tech work available in 10 authenticated copies, which will then be sold as a pair with a special limited edition print of the cover. The works will be available for purchase through Charity Stars www.charitystars.com, a platform that deals with digital auctions, with a charity objective. The proceeds from the sales will be donated to the complex structure of pediatric oncology of the National Cancer Institute of Milan.
The project of the Historical Calendar of the Carabinieri 2023 comes to life in a video case history created by Armando Testa Studios which, starting from the insight of environmental protection, narrates the daily commitment of the Arma through the 12 symbolic posters of the Calendar narrated by the pen of Mario Tozzi.
The considerable interest of the citizen towards the Historical Calendar of the Carabinieri, which today has reached a circulation of almost 1.200.000 copies, of which over 16.000 in nine other languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic, as well as in Sardinian), is an indication both of the affection and closeness enjoyed by the Benemerita, and of the depth of meaning of its contents, which make it an appreciated, coveted and present object both in homes and in the workplace, almost as a testimony to the fact that "in every family there is a Carabiniere".
Begun in 1928, the publication of the Calendar, now in its 90th edition, after the post-war interruption from 1945 to 1949, was resumed regularly in 1950 and since then it has been a punctual interpreter, with its tables, of the events of the Force and, through it, of the History of Italy.
In addition to the Calendar, the 2023 edition of the Agenda has also been published. In this case too, the protagonist is Nature. The Force could not fail to perceive the state of emergency in which the terrestrial habitat finds itself, relying this year on the "in house" writers to highlight the beauty of the seasons, as a gift from Nature, namely: Gen. B. Roberto Riccardi (Commander of the Carabinieri Legion "Trentino Alto Adige"), Maj. reserve selected Margherita Lamesta (Ceremonial Officer), Maj. reserve selected Annalisa Gaudenzi (Rai author, already in service at the Press Office) and Mar. Ca. Emilio Limone (Press Office), authors of various publications.
As in a symphony, the four writers have colored the seasons with the same colors they have worn during their natural succession, since the dawn of time. Modeled by the authors' imagination, four very different marshals, each in their own way, recall Mario Soldati's "I Racconti del maresciallo" and transform the 2023 Arma Agenda into a sort of "marshal's diary".
Thus, the sounds of silence and the white shades of the snow-capped peaks between Val di Susa and the Dolomites penetrate the sancta sanctorum of a winter tale; the plague of unnatural forest fires, in reality too often generated by selfish and criminal hands, sets a torrid summer on Mount Conero ablaze; the triumph of beauty and colors accompanies a case of ecomafia on the Apennines in spring; finally, autumn intersects in the human soul to tell us about an autumn season lived even in the intimacy of a bizarre destiny.
Two other works complete the editorial offer:
the Desk Calendar, dedicated to the theme “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”: small gems nestled among the most evocative views of the Belpaese, the Country of Art, Literature, Italian Ingenuity and for the most romantic, even Love. Month by month, images with Carabinieri portrayed in one of the many villages that embroider Italy, give back an authorial picture made of geography, precious architecture and uniformity. One above all, Civita di Bagnoregio, the so-called “dying city”, location of exceptional titles such as “The Two Colonels” with Totò or “Pinocchio”.
The choice of the theme is another way to remember the proximity of the Benemerita to the citizen and its widespread presence on the national territory, permeated even in those centers inhabited by only a few thousand souls, who see in the Carabinieri Station their sure point of reference. The entire proceeds from the sale of this desk calendar will be donated to the National Assistance Work for the Orphans of the Military of the Carabinieri.
The Table Planning – also focused on Nature – is dedicated to the many activities carried out by the CUFA Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Unit Command, for the restoration and sustainable use of resources present in the terrestrial ecosystem. The protagonists are the CUFA's activities of contrast and prevention, which also aims to protect landscape assets, the food chain and above all to contrast all forms of eco and agro-mafias, an ever-growing phenomenon.
As it happened for the previous Planning Arma, this time too, the proceeds will be donated to a pediatric hospital and this year the beneficiary is the “Vittore Buzzi” Children's Hospital in Milan. Furthermore, continuing on a line already tested with the last edition, the Planning 2023 proposes, at the opening, a fairy tale dedicated to the world of the little ones written by Magg. ris. sel. Margherita Lamesta, the author already chosen by the Arma for the Planning 2022. This year too, the writer has exclusively created a short story, this time freely inspired by two original news stories, which saw two children as protagonists united in the same destiny evoked by the same name.
