“Campania, sanctuaries as museums”: Terre di Campania presents the guide in Maiori. On Saturday, October 22, the publication will be presented in Maiori, which also deals with the valuable Museum of Sacred Art housed in the city on the Amalfi Coast.
After the positive feedback received with the first presentation event, the guide “Campania, sanctuaries as museums”, created by the Terre di Campania APS Association with the contribution of the Campania Regional Council – General Directorate 50.12 “Cultural policies and tourism” Management operational unit 01 “Promotion and enhancement of museums and libraries”, begins the presentation tour of the sanctuaries and museums included in the discussion.
The next stop will be held on Saturday 22 October, starting at 19.00:XNUMX, at the Sala degli Affreschi of Palazzo Mezzacapo in Maiori.
One of the sections of the guide is dedicated to the Don Clemente Confalone Museum of Sacred Art, located inside the Insigne Collegiata Santuario Parrocchia Santa Maria a Mare in Maiori, created with the intent, precisely, to tell the story of the museums of the Campania region characterized by the particularity of being hosted inside Sanctuaries. These sacred places welcome, within their walls, examples of human virtues and stories of Saints and blesseds, of men and women who have left a profound mark on the history of our territory and the people who inhabit it.
The sanctuaries explored in the publication are, at the same time, also homes of culture and art, hosting museums in which are exhibited rich collections of sculptures, paintings, decorative architectural elements, but also objects and simulacra belonging to the saints who lived there, as well as to the common people of the respective territories.
In addition to the museum of Maiori, with the relative sanctuary that hosts it, the following have been included in the volume: the Ethno-historical Museum of the Campanian people in Somma Vesuviana, the Museum of the Monumental Complex of San Vito in Marigliano, the Diocesan Museum of Pompeii, the Museum of Ex-voto in Madonna dell'Arco, the Gerardino Museum of San Gerardo Maiella in Caposele.
The publication “Campania, sanctuaries as museums” not only intends to present the history and characteristics of the sacred places and the museum heritage preserved within them, but also aims to arouse a deeper interest in the territory on which the selected museums are located.
“Campania, sanctuaries as museums” therefore aims to be a tool that invites us to observe the local tourist offer from a new perspective, broadening, through some peculiar places and museums, the focus on the entire panorama of riches of our region. The publication will also be available in audio guide format, downloadable free of charge from the website www.terredicampania.it. The presentation event will be attended by: Antonio Capone, Mayor of Maiori; Don Nicola Mammato, Parish Priest of Santa Maria a Mare; Giuseppe Roggi, in charge of the management of the Confalone Museum. Also taking part in the evening will be Father Giampaolo Pagano, Prior of the Madonna dell'Arco Sanctuary, who shares, together with the Dominican Community, the initiatives of Terre di Campania through the Campania Bellezza del Creato Laboratory.
