With a management order issued in the evening, the Municipality of Naples has ordered that the monumental cemetery of Poggioreale, affected yesterday by the partial collapse of a congregation, will remain prohibited from mortuary police operations until Friday 21 October inclusive.
The provision states that the Cemetery Technical Service, together with the fire brigade, carried out a technical inspection in the areas adjacent to the collapse; in particular, the chapel of the Opera Pia Purgatorio ad Arco located close to the one affected by the partial collapse was inspected, not finding any signs of structural damage either for the elevated structures or in the underground environment; in addition, on the same morning, metal nets were used to reinforce the perimeter of the areas already subject to seizure.
Finally, during the afternoon, the Technical Service for City Cemeteries he made a new access, in the presence of the Public Prosecutor, the technical consultants of the Prosecutor's Office and the firefighters inside the partially collapsed building.
In this overall phase, however of initial approach, it was agreed on the need to collect further data regarding the partial collapse of the building, so as to be able to arrive, as soon as possible, and on the basis of a more detailed picture, at "considered decisions on what to do", as well as on the possible need to make decisions on the methods of access to the cemetery site.
The Monumental Cemetery must remain closed to users, in order to allow such checks to be carried out in the best conditions, without prejudice to the performance of the activities assigned to the subjects and operators indicated in the continuation of the ordinance, which do not interfere with the scheduled inspections. Given these premises, the ordinance extends the ban on access to the Monumental Cemetery of Poggioreale, with the consequent suspension of mortuary police operations, until Friday 21 October included.
Only certain individuals can opt out of the ban (Napoli Services; Asia; NAPLES Metro; Citelum SA; economic operators interested in participating in the multi-year concession tender for the votive and environmental lighting service in the city cemeteries until 31/12/2027).
The bodies, mortal remains and ashes destined for the Monumental Cemetery – concludes the ordinance – will be managed through the mortuary, located in the New Cemetery.
