Cinema, Salvatore Esposito will be 'Piedone': all the news from Titanus. 'La Ciociara' becomes a saga and 'Palermo-Milano' a series
Salvatore Esposito in the role of 'Piedone', played by the much-loved Bud Spencer, and 'La Ciociara' which becomes a saga telling the before and after of the events narrated in De Sica's cinematic masterpiece that made Sophia Loren an international star.
These are the flagships of the development line-up of Titanus, the oldest Italian film and television production and distribution house, presented today by the heir of the family who founded it in 1904, Guido Lombardo.
Together with the president of Titanus Lombardo, the general manager Stefano Bethlen illustrated the plans for the future, announcing two editorial development lines into which the company's projects will be divided: Legacy (which draws on icons of the past that are always current, stories that still offer infinite possibilities in the creation of prequels, sequels, reboots, remakes) and Originals.
Legacy projects will be developed from Titanus' rich library of “almost 400 titles, and will also extend to IP (intellectual properties) that the company is acquiring on the market”.
The first of the Legacy titles is precisely 'Piedone', in which a young contemporary investigator (Salvatore Esposito) takes up the baton passed by the legendary Commissioner Rizzo, played in 1973 by Bud Spencer, to solve the most incredible cases in modern-day Naples.
The series was presented by Sonia Rovai, Senior Director Scripted Production Sky Studios, and Lorenzo Gangarossa, producer of Wildside (a Fremantle group company), both development partners of what will be a Sky Original series, and by Peppe Fiore, head writer. Salvatore Esposito is also co-author. 'La Ciociara' is instead proposed to be both a prequel and a sequel to the film in which the lives of Cesira and Rosetta are retraced from their beginning, from which 100 years have now passed.
Pietro Innocenzi, producer of the film Palermo-Milan one way, spoke at the presentation of 'Palermo-Milan – The series': the historic icon of 90s crime dramas becomes a modern TV series, full of action and adrenaline, in which two young rookie police officers will find themselves becoming heroes.
To complete the Legacy line, Titanus and The Exchange, an international distributor based in Los Angeles, announce the co-development of Phenomena: the cult horror by Dario Argento that after 30 years will thrill lovers of the genre all over the world. The Originals line will instead include projects created from scratch: films and TV series that tell engaging and important stories that have a strong connection with our country.
The first project is the film 'La guerra di Elena': the true story of Elena Di Porto, a Roman Jew who rebelled against the rules imposed by men and fascists in the 40s. A woman who will go down in history for having saved countless lives during a raid in the Ghetto of Rome. The director and author Stefano Casertano presented the project. Among the Originals is also the film 'Agnese e Francesca': the exciting unpublished story of the friendship between two brave and strong women who carry a heavy burden on their shoulders: being wives of the magistrates Falcone and Borsellino.
The third project is 'Ludwig', presented by Jacopo Sonnino, editor of Titanus and co-author of the story: the true story of the unsuspected pair of most prolific serial killers in Italy, Abel and Furlan. A duo of unscrupulous assassins who for ten years spread panic in our country. Then there is a "special project" that concerns the Oscar winner Giuseppe Tornatore: 'Il Camorrista – La serie'.
The work, still unpublished to date, is the directorial debut of Oscar winner Giuseppe Tornatore (1986), who personally attended to illustrate the project. It will be restored and digitized in 4K and 5.1 audio by Titanus, who recovered the original films from the Cineteca di Bologna archives for a worldwide release scheduled for 2023.
The plot retraces, after more than 30 years, one of the most controversial events in Italian history, accompanying the viewer into the depths of organized crime starting from the story inspired by the life of Raffaele Cutolo, the founder of the Nuova Camorra Organizzata.
