Commissioner in Marcianise, the prefect appoints Ciro Silvestro. Appointed after the resignation of the 14 councilors.
The Prefect of Caserta, Giuseppe Castaldo, has formulated a proposal to the Ministry of the Interior to dissolve the Municipal Council of Marcianise, simultaneously ordering its suspension.
Antonello Velardi's experience as mayor of the Municipality of Caserta thus officially ends, determined by the resignations of fourteen city councilors. The prefect has appointed the deputy prefect of the prefecture of Caserta, Ciro Silvestro, as prefectural commissioner for the provisional management of the institution.

Silvestro will therefore be responsible for leading the organization until the next round of elections to choose the mayor, scheduled for next spring.
Antonello Velardi, former editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Il Mattino, mayor of Marcianise for two terms, had to give in this time too because the opposition councilors who had left his majority had filed their resignations.
Velardi had entrusted his greeting to the citizens on Facebook in recent days. "Today is my last day as mayor of Marcianise, as I had announced to you - he wrote in a post - 14 city councilors, 11 of the opposition and 3 of the majority, have announced that they have signed a resignation document that will be presented to the city council, this evening. A long cycle that is political but also personal ends: I tried to give a contribution to the growth of my city, they did not let me do it".
“I have no personal regrets – adds the journalist – I did what was right to do, and that is to never give in to non-negotiable issues. I have never given in my entire life, I could not deviate now to keep my seat. My vision of the city is not the same as that of the 14 councilors who are sending me and my administration home.
There will be time to reflect; certainly the circumstance that in Marcianise the mayors are leaving early, with a few exceptions, is striking. For the city it is certainly a trauma, the plot of things to do is broken again and many of them can no longer be resumed. Patience, this is floating wood. I allow myself to addarrive that the city is much further ahead than politics, that's for sure."
“Personally I'll stop here, I have the right now to take care of myself and my loved ones. – announces – I neglected them. I thank those who already tell me to try again, but I am forced to disappoint them. I paid too high a price and life is only one. It was beautiful, bye everyone”.
Velardi, 58, was first elected with the Democratic Party in 2016, ousted in 2019, and re-elected with a civic list in 2020.
