A long applause, the emotion and the coffin that leaves the parish of San Nunzio Sulprizio among the crowd of family, friends, acquaintances, colleagues and students.
The city of Mugnano is united in grief over the death of Marcello Toscano, the 64-year-old teacher killed on September 27 in the courtyard of the Marino Guarano middle school. The funeral was held in the afternoon, in a strictly private manner. Journalists and cameras were asked to stay outside, and so it was.
“In the face of violence there are never any valid reasons – the parish priest said during the homily – we need hope to be able to move forward, Marcello needs love, our love. He will tell us that now he is in heaven”Giuseppe Porcelli, 54, the school collaborator, is in prison for the murder.
And just yesterday the autopsy was held which confirmed the violent death with a pointed and cutting weapon, a weapon that has not yet been found. Just as the motive is still unclear given that even though there are serious clues against Porcelli, he has not confessed. The murder, according to an initial reconstruction, could be linked to an economic reason, a loan from the teacher to the janitor for an activity.
The funeral was held privately in the Parish of San Nunzio Sulprizio in Mugnano: Luigi Sarnataro, mayor of Mugnano, and Luciano Mottola, mayor of Melito, were present.
A scholarship in memory of Marcello Toscano
"We would like to establish with the Marino Guarano school, with the regional school office and with the municipalities of Melito and Mugnano and with the parishes a scholarship on violence and bullying. We want the memory of Marello Toscano to remain that of a teacher of the utmost integrity at the service of the school".
