Caserta. Two-hour strike this morning at the Whirlpool plant in Carinaro, in the province of Caserta.
The news was announced by the general secretary of Uilm Campania, Crescenzo Auriemma. “Another plant in Campania, which used to produce refrigerators and washing machines, has now become a spare parts center,” the union representative emphasized. “There are about 300 workers waiting to find out what will happen if the multinational were to leave Europe.”
"Campania, as the largest production center in Italy, risks losing other businesses and with them workers," Auriemma continued. "We are still looking for a solution for the Whirlpool processors in Naples and now another employment hole is opening up. Caserta, in the past, was called Terra di Lavoro, today with all the failed industrializations we run the risk of it becoming a production desert."
"We will oppose - concluded the secretary of Uilm Campania - with all our strength so that this does not happen, but a political commitment is urgently needed. Even today, workers have received support from politicians, but I believe the time for solidarity is over. We need real and concrete commitments from those who govern us".
