Former mayor of Marano: 'Never suffered conditioning from the Camorra'. Rodolfo Visconti, mayor of Marano from October 2018 to February 2021 when he was dismissed when the City Council was dissolved due to conditioning from organized crime.
“16 months after the dissolution of the Municipality there is no notice of investigation, neither for me nor for the members of my Council. I have never been influenced by the Camorra, the receivership is a rejection of democratic life”.
This is what Rodolfo Visconti, mayor of Marano (NAPLES) from October 2018 to February 2021, thought, until the dissolution of the City Council due to the influence of organized crime; it was the fourth dissolution in 30 years for the Municipality of Marano, an absolute record in Italy. Yesterday the Council of Ministers approved the extension of the dissolution of the City Council of Marano for a further 6 months, “due to the need to continue the work of recovery from the proven influences of organised crime”.
Meanwhile, Visconti reminds Adnkronos, the appeal presented against the dissolution decree that directly concerns him is pending at the Lazio Regional Administrative Court: “The hearing on the merits was held last July 20 and I am awaiting the outcome,” he says, saying he is “confident. I have not been influenced by the Camorra. This does not mean that Marano is a city where the Camorra does not exist and where trials for serious crimes have been held, but I have not been influenced by my administrative activity. I am sure that light will be shed and justice will be done. It is not a negative judgment on the work of the commissioners, but the dissolution decree is based on the fumus and this is not possible for administrative justice. There is either a crime or there is not, talking about a 'possible influence' is 'banana republic' talk”.
In the prefect's report attached to the decree, Visconti's distant kinship with the son of a boss of the Nuvoletta Camorra clan is underlined: “A person I knew because he lived in my same park of 108 families, but I haven't seen him for 20 years. I've never had a coffee with him, nor have I asked him for his preference when I was elected”, explains Visconti.
"When I became mayor - he continues - the Municipality came from the administration of an extraordinary commission and in forming the new team I chose the same manager who had the commission. I could have chosen anyone, but I chose in continuity with the work that the commissioners had begun. The acceptance of the appeal would be a victory for me, but the greatest victory would be that of the city. Marano now - he concludes - pays for the unjust stigma that has been sewn onto her.”
