Il patrimonio italiano alla ricerca dei geni di Giambattista Vico. Presto verrà ricostruita la discendenza del grande filosofo napoletano.
The president of the General States of Italian Heritage Ivan Drogo Inglese concluded his visit to Vatolla, the Cilento village included in the territory of the municipality of Perdifumo welcomed by the mayor Vincenzo Paolillo.
A visit that follows that of Vittorio Sgarbi who took over the leadership of the scientific committee of the Giambattista Vico Foundation.
The president was accompanied by the entrepreneur Stefano Sgueglia, consul of Assocastelli in Campania but above all the one who invested huge resources to recover and enhance the imposing castle of Rocca Cilento, the ancient administrative center of the Sanseverino, undisputed lords of Cilento.
The ceremony
Professor Drogo Inglese presided over the ceremony which involved the affixing of a plaque on the access door to the castle and the delivery of the certificates certifying the inclusion of the Vatolla manor in the Assocastelli network and the admission of the Giambattista Vico Foundation into the States General of Italian Heritage, the permanent and plenary consultation made up of representatives of the most authoritative and important institutions and organizations operating in the heritage sector.
The Vico lineage.
But the council is interested in reconstructing Vico's legacy.
In fact, eight children were born from his marriage to Maria Teresa Destito.
For this reason, the States General of Italian Heritage together with the Giambattista Vico Foundation have decided to reconstruct his lineage to understand how the genes of the great Neapolitan philosopher were propagated.
The castle
The fulcrum of this research will be the castle of Vatolla, where the philosopher lived for just under ten years, called to the role of tutor of the four children of the Marquis Domenico Rocca.
In the 600s the castle was owned by the Rocca marquises, then passed to the Vargas Machuca family and from them to the Calvi counts of Bergolo.
Today it is home to the Giambattista Vico Foundation.
The Foundation
The foundation is chaired by the lawyer Luigi Maria Pepe who took over the baton from his father Vincenzo Pepe, a professor of constitutional law and well-known environmentalist (he is the founder and president of the Fare Ambiente movement).
Inside the castle there are over 20 thousand volumes and two original canvases by Paolo De Matteis, a Cilento painter whose most famous creation, the Resurrection, is located near the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
