The 10 people poisoned after consuming mandrake in the Phlegraean municipalities and hospitalized in Pozzuoli belong to three different families. One is in a reserved prognosis. . The same ASL has alerted the emergency rooms of the territory for possible arrivals of other poisoned people. Its prevention technicians are around with NAS and Carabinieri of Pozzuoli for possible withdrawals of vegetables for precautionary purposes. The ones seized so far are loose vegetables, so for the packaged ones there have been no problems.
The Carabinieri are withdrawing, as a precaution, some batches of vegetables from some greengrocers and food markets in Pozzuoli and Quarto, in the province of Naples, following the case of mandrake poisoning.
The Carabinieri of the Pozzuoli company and the NAS are at work. At the moment, there are 8 people poisoned. And it is not excluded that the exchange took place in a sort of black market where the products cost less. Instead, it could have been a mistake made at the beginning of the chain, at the wholesale market, since the product was then purchased by several buyers.
According to what was found by 'Nessuno tocchi Ippocrate', the Facebook group that brings together health workers from the province of Naples, there are 5 people who are hospitalized in Pozzuoli, 4 residents of Monte di Procida and one in Quarto, hospitalized at Santa Maria delle Grazie in Pozzuoli for suspected poisoning by Mandrake.

The accident seems to be due to the similarity of this plant to common spinach, “mistake by some local greengrocer?”. The invitation, addressed to the inhabitants of Bacoli, Monte di Procida, Monteruscello, Quarto and Pozzuoli, is to “avoid eating spinach and chard bought in the last few days.”
