L’espresso napoletano simbolo di condivisione e solidarietà, dal caffè sospeso all’impegno di Banco Alimentare contro gli sprechi.
Caffè Borbone contributes to the initiative for the recovery of unconsumed food and redistribution in the territory among the most needy people.
Among the primary needs, coffee is no exception, always a symbol of sharing and solidarity, especially in Naples. It is here that the most supportive phenomenon ever came to life spontaneously, the suspended coffee, the one that is left paid in advance at the bar, in favor of the poor customer who could not afford it.
The idea of organizing a recovery of unsold coffee, in perfect condition and very good, with a redistribution that occurs well before the indicated expiration date, is based on the principle that coffee can never and should never be a luxury for the few, but always and only a pleasure for everyone. This is how Caffè Borbone takes a stand against food waste, signing an agreement with Banco Alimentare for the redistribution of its unsold coffee. The Fondazione Banco Alimentare deals with the recovery of food products and all surpluses from agricultural and industrial production.
In short, unconsumed food – but still in perfect condition – that will then be redistributed among Italian charitable organizations that deal with meeting the primary needs of the neediest segments of the population. All the activities of the Fondazione Banco Alimentare are supported daily by people who dedicate their time as volunteers, or by contributing financially.
The aim is to give a second life to food surpluses, still perfect for consumption and which despite this are often destined for disposal. The broader objective is to make virtuous circles and acts of solidarity coexist, supporting anti-waste policies. Not only does it represent an important step towards the poorest segments of the population, but also towards the environment: recovered foods, not becoming waste, allow for savings in terms of energy resources, thanks to the reduction of CO₂ emissions into the atmosphere and also obtain a fundamental return in terms of savings on storage costs, as well as waste disposal. Being supportive has never been so wise and necessary.
And Caffè Borbone, always present when it comes to ethical choices, has also preferred not to be caught unprepared this time. The rationale is that we can all do something, be it coffee or something else, what makes the difference is being there.
