Memorial Gianni Del Sorbo: Concert Success. Scholarship and Support for Young Local Musicians
The first meeting was held on Saturday 29 October '22 in the courtyard of the Don Carlo La Mura High School in Angri
Memorial to Gianni Del Sorbo.
The concert event in memory of the Maestro exactly one year after his premature passing. Many friends and colleagues, all valid musicians, took turns on the stage set up specifically to celebrate Gianni exactly "as he would have wanted..." This is the title of the show that began with the screening of the video of "Aria", an unreleased song by the Maestro and dedicated to his wife Arianna Dragonetti who attended the show sitting in the front row, next to the Headmaster of the High School, Professor Filippo Toriello who hosted and immediately supported the initiative as soon as it was proposed to him by the creator and Artistic Director Giuseppe Novi.
The moment of live performances was started by a student of Maestro Del Sorbo at the Mousik'è music school in Gragnano. The same school, together with the Happy Music Academy in Striano and Follie Musicali in Angri are the first organizations in the area that have already joined the Gianni Del Sorbo Scholarship, making musical instruments and training courses available to the most disadvantaged people.
The grant will be offered by the Premio Città di Angri and the Liceo Don Carlo La Mura and, thanks also to the many musicians who have already expressed their intention to participate in the project by providing equipped spaces, professionalism and technical instruments, as well as the most varied music and singing courses, it will be exclusively for the benefit of young people in the area.
Many bands also performed during the evening: from Los Amigos di Santanna to Station Group, from Evergreen to Fabula, from Fuxia to Mister C, up to Aphoteosis, a historic band that contributed to the artistic talents of the late Maestro Del Sorbo. And another Maestro – among the many present – Antonello Buonocore, gave a welcome and unexpected gift to the audience: the song “Un Senso” by Vasco Rossi, in fact, was performed by the band and sung by the voice – clearly recorded – of Gianni Del Sorbo. A shiver ran through the mind and soul of the already chilled audience.
Between his voice and the projected images, Gianni Del Sorbo was there, present among his family and dearest friends. His personal guitar, exhibited especially for
the occasion certified his participation. Everything exactly "as he would have wanted..."
