Meteorologists explain that the term 'ottobrata' derives from the traditional Roman festivals that closed the grape harvest period in October. To celebrate the harvest and the end of the hard work, on Thursdays and Sundays each family organized a trip out of town (called, precisely, 'ottobrata') and so from each district wagons adorned with bells set out, on which the girls sat. The rest of the group followed the wagon on foot to its destination.
So, from a meteorological point of view, October indicates a period, typical of the month of October, during which high pressure dominates for several days, consequently causing conditions of atmospheric stability, absence of rain and a climate more late summer than autumn.
