Minors employed for begging, 3 cases discovered in Naples. Checks by local police officers in the historic center area
The agents of the Local Police's Operational Unit for the Protection of Social Emergencies and Minors intercepted in the space of a few days 3 minors, two of whom were small children, used by their parents on the street for begging or illegal sales.
A 17-year-old minor was caught by officers coordinated by Commander Ciro Esposito near the Church of Santa Chiara while she was begging with her 19-month-old son. The girl is married to a 19-year-old, the child's father.
The officers tracked down the girl's father and husband and both were warned not to allow the two minors to engage in begging. Both individuals were reported to the Judicial Authority.
A similar operation was carried out in Via Arenaccia where the officers surprised a woman sitting on the ground with her 10-month-old son. Also in this case the woman was reported to the Judiciary for the same crime.
The social services of the territory were immediately alerted for the appropriate interventions to protect both mother/child nuclei. A 15-year-old boy was then intercepted by the agents who was employed by his father to sell toys along via Toledo. The boy, approached with due caution, said he had been in Italy for a few months, that he did not attend school and that his father, a street vendor, entrusted him with goods to sell.
The father, who arrived on the scene, confirmed what the boy had said, was warned not to continue with the conduct prejudicial to the minor and was fined for having carried out street vending activities in an area prohibited by a specific municipal ordinance.
