“We have launched an appeal to the Municipality to monitor a situation that periodically repeats itself. In particular, we have forwarded to Teresa Armato, Councilor for Productive Activities, and to Antonio De lesu, Councilor for Legality, a request for greater controls on any illegal occupations.
Like every year, in the period between the end of October and the beginning of November, numerous street stalls selling sweets set up in the Naples area", explained the president of Fipe Confcommercio Campania Maximum Of Porzio.
“Beyond the health and hygiene considerations on the methods of sale and administration of food products, even loose, without protection from atmospheric agents and pollutants, we would like to point out that most of the stalls located between Piazza Nazionale and Piazza Carlo III sell directly on the roadway, in some cases even near bus stops or tram tracks, in violation of the highway code and with serious risk for the safety of the stall customers themselves and of passers-by in general”.
This is the appeal, to which was also attached photographic documentation relating to Piazza Carlo III and Piazza Nazionale, addressed to the Municipality with a letter.
“We have also received numerous reports according to which – Di Porzio claims – various stalls have progressively enlarged the spaces occupied, presumably in an abusive manner, so much so as to obstruct pedestrian and sometimes even vehicular passage.
It is also clear that this phenomenon constitutes a very incisive form of unfair competition to the detriment of fixed-site businesses, which are subject to much more onerous obligations and charges to regularly conduct their business. We therefore ask that you arrange for the appropriate controls to verify - concludes the president of Fipe Confcommercio - the legitimacy of such occupations and their conformity to the concessions issued, to protect public safety and operators in good standing".
