Naples, they facilitated illegal immigration: order for 8 traffickers. Investigation by the Naples Flying Squad that discovered the trafficking of migrants towards Lampedusa. Order for 8 migrants 3 Egyptians and 5 Sudanese
In recent days, the State Police have arrested two suspects for the crime of aiding and abetting illegal immigration, against migrants who landed on the island of Lampedusa in the second half of August.
In particular, the investigations revealed that 8 migrants, 3 of whom were Egyptian and 5 Sudanese, had responsibilities such as to determine the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Agrigento, led by Acting Prosecutor Salvatore Vella, to issue as many arrest warrants for the suspects.
The investigative activity was started by the Agrigento Flying Squad, following the landing of 82 migrants in Lampedusa on 17 August, continuing, with the coordination of the Central Operations Service, in other locations, when the migrants from the aforementioned landing had been allocated to various parts of Italy.
In particular, the Naples Flying Squad carried out numerous interrogations against migrants present within the territory of its jurisdiction, thanks to which their sea voyage was reconstructed and the members of the incriminated crew were identified, attributing to them the role played by each.
The results of the complex investigative activity summarized in the crime report, by the Agrigento Flying Squad, were submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor Giulia Sbocchia who considered precise and serious the elements collected against eight foreigners, aged between 20 and 37, who in moral and material complicity with each other, in violation of the provisions of the Consolidated Law on Illegal Immigration, had transported 73 non-EU citizens, mostly from Bangladesh, to Italian territory, taking them from the Libyan coast to Italian territorial waters, on board an overcrowded boat of about 12 meters and exposing them to serious danger of life.
Specifically, the migrants had been forced to navigate in precarious safety conditions, as the crossing had taken place in the absence of life-saving devices that were not provided to the transported. Furthermore, it was ascertained that the so-called traffickers had carried out such conduct in order to gain an indirect profit.
Some of the recipients of the restrictive measures were stopped by personnel of the Naples Flying Squad and the respective measures were subsequently validated by the competent GIP. Other individuals are currently being actively sought.
