It will be awarded to Gigi D'Alessio the “Ambassadors of Neapolitan Music” award established by the Culture Commission of the Naples City Council.
The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 6, in the Sala dei Baroni del Maschio Angioino. In addition to Gigi D'Alessio, the artists who will be nominated from time to time by a commission of experts, as approved by the Culture Commission on the proposal of the city councilor Gennaro Demetrio Paipais, will receive the recognition of ambassadors of Neapolitan music of the Municipality of Naples.
The proposal was put forward to Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, who provided the Municipality with an office responsible for implementing the “Naples City of Music” program: it will be under the direction of the Music Office and the lawyer Ferdinando Tozzi, advisor for the cultural industry on music and audiovisual of the Mayor of Naples, that the award will take shape with the appointment of a special evaluation commission and a regulation.
“It is not just a tribute but above all an investiture, which makes the beneficiaries responsible for the role they can play in supporting the promotion of this excellence in the world and in the path of strengthening the music industry in Naples, especially for the emergence of new talents,” explained the president of the commission Luigi Carbone.
The Commission, on the proposal of Councilor Paipais, initially nominated some artists to inaugurate the award: among these Gigi D'Alessio, for the event broadcast live on Rai on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of his career, which focused the attention of a vast public on the Neapolitan music scene, thanks to the successful interaction with new generations of local artists who are interpreting in the best possible way the new trends much appreciated by the younger ones.
“The revival of the city – explains Paipais – passes through music and that is why, for our artistic tradition, it was essential to establish a prestigious recognition aimed at artists who have distinguished themselves for having ferried our musical culture throughout the world: among these Gigi D'Alessio, son of our city, who recently celebrated thirty years of career. Other authoritative names will have to receive the prestigious recognition.
The artists who will receive the award will undertake to advance proposals to the Culture Commission to relaunch the city through music. Naples boasts a group of authoritative musicians who deserve proper recognition”, concludes Paipais.
