He fell from the roof of a three-story building in the historic center of Portici while he was busy laying the sheathing on the terrace.

A 59-year-old worker from Naples died this morning in a serious workplace accident, which is currently being investigated by the local Carabinieri station. The alarm was raised around 11:XNUMX a.m. by residents of the densely populated Addolorata neighborhood.

Ambulances and law enforcement were on the scene, but by the time emergency services arrived, there was nothing more that could be done for the unfortunate victim. The construction site has now been seized and an investigation has been opened to determine any liability for the worker's death.

In the first months of 2022, there have already been 677 accidents at work

The 72nd edition of the ANMIL Day for Victims of Workplace Accidents is an important opportunity to forcefully reiterate that workplace safety must be a priority on the political agenda. In the first eight months of 8, 2022 fatal workplace accident reports were filed with INAIL. These are worrying numbers, enough to raise a social alarm.

Paolo Capone, general secretary of the UGL, stated this in a statement. As UGL, Capone continued, "we are calling for a comprehensive reform aimed at strengthening the coordination of databases (INPS, INAIL, ISTAT, the Ministry of Labor, and the Ministry of Health) and ensuring greater effectiveness of interventions. Finally, it is necessary to provide training programs aimed at increasing the culture of safety, starting in schools for young people. The UGL's 'Work to Live' demonstration aims to raise public and institutional awareness of the tragic phenomenon of workplace deaths. We must put an end to this ongoing and silent massacre."

Meanwhile, today in Florence, regarding workplace deaths and accidents, a flash mob by CGIL, CISL, and UIL unions took place on Viale Strozzi to raise public awareness of the issue of workplace accidents, particularly in light of the death of 26-year-old rider Sebastian Galassi a few days ago.

Participants displayed banners and flags along the roadside and placed yellow safety helmets at pedestrian crossings and along the avenue. In the province of Florence alone, in the first eight months of 2021, there were 7.506 reports of workplace injuries (INAIL data), seven of which were fatal. In the same period this year, there were 10.365 workplace injuries reported, resulting in 13 deaths.

"Let's not call them fatalities anymore, the numbers are merciless.", accuse Cgil-Cisl-Uil Florence respectively with Giancarla Casini, Erika Caparrini and Leonardo Mugnaini, opening the mobilization campaign in view of the national united demonstration of Rls and Rlst on October 22 in Rome.

"A new approach from everyone is urgently needed - support -, with a real reversal of the trend that sees investments in safety not as a cost but as a benefit for the community. It's not a civilized country to mourn its own deaths when they occur due to neglect, haste, or the pursuit of greater profits. What's needed is real action against the underground economy, irregular contracts, and undeclared work. Alessandra Nardini, the Tuscany Region's labor councilor, also greeted the rally.
