“Park of the Art Walls”. The History of the Vesuvian Towns in the Murals
The first cultural and urban space redevelopment event, desired by the Carotenuto administration and financed by the Metropolitan City of Naples, begins today
The event “Parco delle pareti d'arte” officially begins today, dedicated, in this first edition, to the theme of hospitality. A celebration of roots and sociality is the one that will be held until October 31st. The underlying mission is the valorization of the territory through culture. The history of Boscotrecase, of the Vesuvian and coastal municipalities told, as in a book, through the images that local and national artists will draw on the white wall behind the Town Hall in Piazza Municipio. The initiative, the communication and promotional material are produced within the scope of the project realized with the financing of the Metropolitan City of Naples.
Until Friday 21st you can apply to paint a work, sending the application (downloadable from the website: www.parcodelleparetidarte.it) and your own draft to the artistic director Nello Collaro (using the email: nellocollaro@libero.it). From Saturday 22nd, the creation of the 11 selected murals will begin, which will be officially shown in the final event on October 31st. Collaro's idea is not to exclude anyone: those who are not selected for the first edition will automatically be included among the artists of the next events. The administration, in fact, is already working for the subsequent editions, so that symbolic moments or characters that have characterized the territory can be depicted on the houses of the entire municipal territory.
During the two weeks there will be an event with the Corale del Vesuvio, a conference on wine and a weekend with music and markets, curated by the director Mimmo Pesce.
"Our Vesuvian towns are all united by a single story. What begins now is only the first of a long narrative that, soon, will take us down the town to tell, through figurative art, our great experience". Said artistic director Nello Collaro, adding: “Almost 40 years ago we painted the same wall as a sort of protest against Italy's involvement in the war in Lebanon. Now we are doing the same to stop the violence that is devastating Europe”.
For the Councilor for Culture and Tourism of Boscotrecase Marialuisa Russomanno: “We have accepted a request that came to us from the territory. Our country has always been a hotbed of creativity, talent and art. Painting is a common and widespread feeling. The streets of our territory are characterized by art and a particular devotion. We want to take up this story and make it current again”.
Mayor Pietro Carotenuto spoke of “dual purpose. This event requalifies urban spaces and highlights the cultural path we have been working on since 2016 together with the school, parishes and the associations' consultation. A responsible city is one that manages to highlight the art, history and industriousness of the territory, making them known to the new generations".
Adding: "Together with Councilor Russomanno, who has worked tirelessly to keep a complex machine together, we are already studying the feasibility of the second edition because we want to bring touches of art to all the neighborhoods of our community. For this reason, we are working to intercept new funding, but, if it doesn't come, we will do it anyway with the commitment of the administration and of those who want to be there."
