“Words in Circulation. Let's Free Culture”: Marinella will lead the social libraries. The initiative aims to make book donations to prisons, family homes and meeting places.
The journey of the “Words in Circulation” project has begun.
After the presentation of the promo video on the social channels of the Italian Library Association, Campania Section and at the Campania Libri Festival, held at the Palazzo Reale from September 29 to October 2, the meetings aimed at collecting books to be donated to social libraries will begin.
The initiative, as already anticipated, has the objective of making donations of books to prisons, family homes and places of aggregation in which culture can become a tool of stimulation.
The collection will be led by a sustainable rag doll, Marinella, who is the symbol of the project and at the same time, will be physically present in the places where, weekly, you can donate the texts to be allocated to the initiative.
Maria Pia Cacace, president of AIB Campania, spoke about it: "Marinella is a colorful little cloth doll that has become the symbol of the project. She was at the stand of the Campania Libri Festival, almost as if she were a representative of "Parole in Circolazione". She will tour the bookstores where you can buy and donate the books that, in turn, will be given to the inmates of the prisons or to the users of family homes.
A map will be created showing the stages of the rag doll as well as a calendar with the meeting dates. Bookstores, cultural associations or reading circles that would like to be stages of the journey can request Marinella's "stop" by writing to campania@aib.it.
On various occasions, reading meetings with workshops for children will be held, the proceeds of which will be donated for the purchase of shelves, books, chairs and tables for social libraries.
Those who live in conditions of limited freedom experience forms of discomfort that can be improved and relieved by reading. This is an almost therapeutic effect of the book: to divert attention from the daily themes connected to confinement for the opening of different spaces of imagination.
The Facebook page of “Parole in Circolazione. LiberiAmo la Cultura” will indicate the locations where reading meetings, workshops and book collections to donate will be held.
