Pompei-Arles: firmato un accordo di cooperazione finalizzato alla reciproca valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale.
The international cooperation agreement between the Archaeological Park of Pompeii and the Department of Bouches-du-Rhône (Bouches-du-Rhône)/Departmental Museum of Ancient Arles was signed this morning.
The signing of the agreement between the Director of the Park, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, and the President of the Department of Bouches-du-Rhône, Martine Vassal, which followed a visit to the site, was attended by the Consul General of France in Naples, Lise Moutoumalaya, the Mayor of Arles, Patrick De Carolis, the Mayor of Pompei, Carmine Lo Sapio, and the Director of the Centre Jean-Bérard, Valérie Huet.
The Departmental Museum of Arles, which depends on the Department of Bouches-du-Rhône, preserves the works and testimonies of the antiquity of the city of Arles and its region. The collaboration with the Archaeological Park of Pompeii was born around the similarities observed between the Pompeian paintings and the frescoes of the “House of the Harpist”, a Pompeian-style house dating back to the 1st century BC, found on the site of La Verrerie in Arles which presents exceptional first-style decorations in recomposed fragments.
The agreement, aimed at the implementation of programs for the mutual enhancement of the heritage, in addition to exchanges on restoration and conservation processes, will be concretely expressed in the organization of temporary exhibitions, in the mutual loan of works, in the organization of seminars and scientific meetings, in the production of publications and in general in the development of cultural, educational and media activities for the public.
“We are proud that Pompeii is seen as a model of best practice for the conservation and enhancement of archaeological sites and we are happy to be able to make our skills available in a mutual exchange of cultural development with the reality of Arles. – underlines Director Gabriel Zuchtriegel – This agreement creates a synergy not only between two museum sites, but between two territories that have several points in common beyond archaeology, such as the rural context, agriculture and the Mediterranean diet. Values on which Pompeii, through the enhancement of green areas, and Arles are jointly focusing in order to go beyond the enhancement of the single museum, and towards a broader development of the entire surrounding territory.”
