Procida 2022: an art exhibition to celebrate Massimo Troisi. Group exhibition of 49 artists to celebrate the late actor loved by all
The island of Procida celebrates Massimo Troisi through a collective exhibition of contemporary art hosted at the Officine dei Misteri of the monumental complex of Palazzo d'Avalos from 20 October 2022 to 6 January 2023. Planned and financed by the Campania Region (POC 2014-2020) and produced by Scabec as part of the program of Procida Italian Capital of Culture 2022, the exhibition “Il Postino dietro le quinte.
“The faces of Massimo Troisi” is conceived by Stefano Veneruso, nephew of the late Neapolitan actor, and collects and displays an emotional series of memories that, through personal objects and works of art, tell the poetics, passions, successes and life of Troisi. From Lello Esposito to Filippo Bragatt, from Prisco De Vivo to Vincenzo Mollica, up to Troisi himself: these are some of the authors (professionals and non) of the works created with different techniques and styles, and who interpret and propose, in a personal and introspective way, the director, the actor, the man and the spirit of Massimo Troisi.
In the suggestive Monumental Complex of Procida, objects that belonged to Troisi are also exhibited, such as the bronze sculpture, with an engraved dedication, created by the artist Lello Esposito on direct commission by Troisi: a special work, a unique piece, exhibited for the first time in Procida and coming from Massimo Troisi's private collection, entitled "Eccomi qui - Pulcinella per Massimo Troisi, 1992", made of bronze with a lava stone base, a work that Massimo kept at the entrance of his Roman house and proudly showed to his guests.
Among other objects, some of which have become true symbols, iconic images of auteur cinema such as the famous bicycle from the film Il Postino, a masterpiece of Italian and international filmography, a cinematic transposition of the novel Il Postino by Neruda by the Chilean author Antonio Skarmeta, filmed on the smallest of the islands in the Gulf of Naples. Twenty-eight years after the shooting of the film directed by Michael Radford (Oscar winner 1996 for the soundtrack) with the assistance of Stefano Veneruso himself, the magic of Massimo Troisi returns to Procida, the island to which he gave his most intense and moving interpretation.
