Tomorrow Sister Filomena will celebrate her hundredth birthday, 70 of which were spent in Naples, in the convent next to the Basilica of Madonna del Buon Consiglio in Capodimonte.
Sister Filomena Gisoldi, a nun from the congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts, was received in the Vatican by Pope Francis today – on the occasion of her upcoming birthday. She arrived in Rome by bus.
She woke up before dawn and traveled to the capital with some of her sisters, including the superior general, mother Amabile Galata', accompanied by Monsignor Salvatore Ardesini. Originally from Irpinia, she lost her mother during the 1930 earthquake that caused the collapse of her home. She managed to survive.
She then entered the congregation of the Sisters Ancelle della Chiesa, which joined the congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Hearts.
