'Altri Natali', 250 events in Naples from December 8th to 30th. Organizers reinterpret the Neapolitan classic canon.
"Altri Natali" is the title of the festival promoted by the City of Naples, which will take place in the city's 8 municipalities from December 30th to 10th. 250 events offer a reinterpretation of the Neapolitan Christmas tradition. Music, theater, dance, cinema, readings, and creative workshops will be the areas where "Altri Natali" will find its artistic expression.
Recalling the centuries-old depth and originality of our tradition will be, among others, Peppe Barra, who brings his "Cantata dei Pastori" to the Politeama Theater, updated in terms of text, costumes, and direction; Mariano Rigillo with the music and poetry show "Natale... amore e De Pretore" as part of "Natale dal Baroque al Jazz" (Christmas from Baroque to Jazz); Maurizio De Giovanni with "Quanno nascette ninno," a musical reading included in the "Il Natale che vorrei..." (The Christmas I Would Like...) project; Carlo Faiello and Giovanni Mauriello with "Stella d'argento" (Silver Star) for "Le Voci di Jubal" (Jubal's Voices); and Isa Danieli and Fausta Vetere, protagonists of the "Vesuvio Nativitas Mundi" concert series, which will establish a dialogic relationship between the Neapolitan Christmas and that of other cultures.
"We wanted Altri Natali to combine avant-garde and convention, because tradition can only be carried forward by exploring its forms, contaminating them with new languages, and fearlessly including what comes from outside." said Andrea Mazzucchi, advisor to the mayor of Naples on integrated cultural programming.
Among the musical events scheduled are "The Singing Nativity Scene", a musical tale curated by the Neapolitan Mandolin Academy and performed by the Naples Mandolin Orchestra and Lello Giulivo; the "Other Flutes for Other Christmases" festival, hosted in the Evangelical Lutheran Church; and "Lights, Music and Magic of Christmas in Naples", scheduled in Secondigliano in the church of the Immaculate Conception and in San Pietro a Patierno in the church of Santa Maria della Purità.
With the Altri Natali call for proposals, the Manfredi administration intended to send a strong message to the Neapolitan cultural scene, rooted in the region. An unprecedented commitment of approximately €900.000 to fund dozens of high-quality performing arts projects, with the aim of enhancing the existing initiatives in each municipality.
The aim of the call, in fact, was precisely to support and promote the construction of Naples as a 'polycentric city', in which individual municipal communities can best express their potential and their history., underlined the coordinator of cultural policies of the Municipality of Naples Sergio Locoratolo.
