A request for 200 thousand euros to release the hacked data. This is the request received this afternoon by the Municipality of Torre del Greco, affected by a cyber attack that occurred last night.
The mayor, Giovanni Palomba, made the announcement, saying that the activity of the municipal offices is currently blocked and that a complaint will be filed with the judicial authorities regarding the matter.
“The state of blocking of the activity of the Municipal Offices continues, due to the hacker attack that occurred last night, to the detriment of the Institution, by unknown persons. Constant monitoring and intervention of the municipal technicians, in agreement with the Postal Police Agents, immediately alerted to the incident, starting from the early hours of the morning”, wrote the mayor.
And then he explained that "A request for payment also arrived during the afternoon, to release the data hacked, equal to two hundred thousand euros, for which a formal complaint will be filed with the relevant Judicial Authority.
Therefore, tomorrow, November 18th, and until further notice, all offices will be prohibited from providing services to citizens.
"This is a very serious matter," the mayor said, "on which we have been working tirelessly since this morning, and on which we will not accept any illicit mediation. I remain fully confident in the diligent work of the investigators. I urge the citizens of Torre del Greco to cooperate during these particularly critical hours."
