The autonomous Sappe Penitentiary Police Union returns to the streets to protest the situation in Campania's prisons: tomorrow at 10 a demonstration will be held in front of the "Francesco Uccella" prison in S. Maria Capua Vetere.
"We will return to ask for the replacement of the head of Dap Carlo Renoldi. As Sappe has been denouncing for some time, now in prisons the inmates are the masters, thanks to an indiscriminate opening of the cells and the absence of tools to protect the physical safety of the personnel for specific ministerial responsibilities", explains the general secretary Donato Capece.
The Union recalls the alarming data of the events that occurred in the regional penitentiaries of Campania in the first half of 2022: 673 acts of self-harm, 7 deaths from natural causes, 2 suicides and 84 prevented in time by the Agents; 432 fights behind bars, 37 injuries and 3 escapes (two from penitentiary institutions and one from a day release).
In the Sappe "ranking", the Poggioreale prison in Naples stands out for acts of self-harm (195) and fights (161), followed by that of S. Maria Capua Vetere (174 acts of self-harm and 108 fights) which holds the record for suicides prevented by the police, 29.
"The women and men of the Penitentiary Police cannot continue to be attacked or constantly find themselves in situations of high tension without the Ministry of Justice and the Dap adopting urgent measures. We are collapsing!", denounces Capece, who once again renews his hope of being able to meet soon with the new Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, to find rapid solutions to the penitentiary problems of Campania and the entire country.
