The so-called blood crimes, murders and attempted murders are decreasing. On the other hand, thefts and robberies are increasing, as are fights between minors.

This is the crime picture in the district of the Court of Appeal of Naples in the comparison between 2021 and 2022. The numbers are provided by the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Naples, Luigi Riello, and the acting president of the Court, Eugenio Forgillo, on the eve of the inauguration of the judicial year. The voluntary homicides go from 39 to 35, with a reduction of 10%.

Mafia-related homicides decreased by 13%, as did attempted homicides (-77%). In 2022, over 64 thousand thefts were recorded, with an increase of +11% compared to the previous year. Among these, muggings (+18%) and thefts committed in apartments (+11%) stand out, while those of works of art and archaeological material decreased significantly (-37%).

The trend is also rising for robberies (+21%), with over 2.300 crimes committed in public streets. There is a slight reduction in sexual violence (-3%), even if the 202 cases remain an alarming figure.

The numbers also show a substantial decrease in episodes of exploitation of prostitution and child pornography (-57%), as also underlined in the press conference by the prosecutor Riello.

In the criminal sector, in almost all the district courts the final pending cases are reduced, with a consequent reduction in the length of the trials and a decrease in the weight of the stocks. Despite this, Forgillo points out, for the Court of Appeal of Naples the data on pending cases remains absolutely disproportionate in relation to the available workforce.

“At the end of 2021 - explains - there were over 55 thousand trials awaiting celebration, of which over 180 were prior to 2010. Although they have been reduced to 49 thousand, they are still an immense entity”.

Forgillo also highlights that the phenomenon of 'stese' between opposing gangs is still widespread and that the effects of the restrictions on mobility due to Covid have “induced criminal enterprises to 'reconvert' some traditional activities”, also “by taking the field directly, through 'screens', on the front of access to income support institutions, as in illegal sanitation services for hotel-tourist and commercial facilities”.
