“While President Maggio promptly apologized for the language used, both to Francesco Todisco and to the city and to all the city councilors, the invitation I extend to the entire chamber is to lower the tone.
Before May's statements, the president had been heavily criticized by the opposition benches, and almost physically harassed, while he was busy ensuring compliance with the council regulations".
This was declared by the mayor of Avellino, Gianluca Festa, returning to what happened in the City Council two days ago, with some threats uttered by the president of the Assembly Ugo Maggio against Francesco Todisco, councilor delegated to the Internal Areas of the Campania Region.
“The administration that I am honored to represent – explains Festa – condemns violence in all its forms. Therefore, also everything that happened in the council chamber on Monday evening.
Convinced that a constructive but respectful dialogue, even when heated, is the salt of democracy, and that it can only do good for the city, I urge all forces, majority and minority, to commit themselves to prevent the legitimate and inevitable political opposition, on merit and method, from degenerating again into offense and personal attacks, both inside and outside the council chamber".
