Banco di Napoli Foundation: screening of the documentary "Flegrea – A Future for Bagnoli"
A social project to support the acceleration of the regeneration process of the Bagnoli-Coroglio area
The history of Bagnoli in a feature film that offers the perspective of those born and raised in that neighborhood, with the aim of raising awareness of the community and stakeholders, both local and otherwise, and triggering decisive actions. On Monday, January 23 at 17 pm, at the headquarters of the Fondazione Banco di Napoli in via dei Tribunali, the documentary film by Stefano Romano Flegrea – a Future for Bagnoli will be screened. The distribution phase was financed by the Foundation itself and the production by the Film Commission Regione Campania. Participants in the event: the sub-commissioner for the reclamation of Bagnoli Dino Falconio, the Councilor for work and youth policies of the Municipality of Naples Chiara Marciani, the representative of the Popular Observatory Dario Oropallo, the Councilor for Urban Planning of the Campania Region Bruno Discepolo, the meeting will be moderated by the Administrator of Nisida Environment Raffaele Vaccaro. The President of the Foundation Orazio Abbamonte will welcome the guests.
The event also aims to contribute to an acceleration of the regeneration process of the Bagnoli-Coroglio area and to discuss the crucial issues that concern it. The involvement of citizens in the reclamation process, as well as in the future management of the regenerated areas, and the development of a collaboration between civil society and responsible institutions will be discussed, with the aim of structuring a constructive and lasting relationship between the parties involved. In Southern Italy, and in many other areas of Europe, pollution resulting from past and now abandoned industrial activities has caused a drastic loss of competitiveness, as well as territorial resilience. The abandonment of vast areas precludes the start of stable economic activities, reducing the possibilities for economic development to a minimum. All this leads to further serious consequences, such as the increase in unemployment and youth emigration. In Italy and Europe, the issue of the regeneration of Sites of National Interest such as those of Bagnoli must be a protagonist in the public debate of the coming years. In this context and for these reasons, Nisida Environment together with the Zenith Association, the author and director Stefano Romano and the Banco di Napoli Foundation becomes the spokesperson of this reality.
The production of the documentary was launched thanks to a crowdfunding campaign on the “Produzioni dal Basso” platform, which involved over 330 supporters for an amount of over 18.000 euros.
And with the contribution of the Fondazione Banco di Napoli, a photographic exhibition has also been created, which can be visited on the day of the screening of the documentary film and which tells the relationship with the territory, the choices that condition life, the bond with loved ones and friends in a context of economic and social deprivation, linking them to what happens beyond the screen. The work of the photographers aims to illustrate the stories, places, characters and emotions that the film contains and also those that inspired it, starting from the meeting in 2016 with the activists of Villa Medusa – Casa del Popolo.
