The great final party Procida 2022, the energy of 200 citizens fuels the stage. The Capital of Culture bids farewell with a great collective show in Marina Grande. Wednesday 18th the passing of the baton to Bergamo and Brescia.
Over 200 citizens dressed in pink, the color of Procida 2022, power the Pedal Stage by generating electricity by pedaling with their bicycles attached to a special stand connected to a dynamo for the entire duration of the show. And thus summarizing the active, fundamental role that the citizens have played during the year as Italian Capital of Culture.
The final event of Procida 2022 saw, yesterday, the participation of thousands of people, at the conclusion of an extraordinary journey (with 44 cultural projects of which 34 original, spread over 300 days of programming declined in workshops open to the public, final restitution events, concerts, happenings, openings of exhibitions, for a total of 150 events).
Pedaling together with the mayor of Procida Dino Ambrosino and the director of Procida 2022 Agostino Riitano, also the vice president of the Senate, Mariolina Castellone and the Consul General of the United States of America in Naples Tracy Roberts-Pounds.
On the Palco a Pedali, together with the band Têtes de Bois, who created the format, artists from the jazz scene took turns - from the saxophonist Stefano Di Battista to Nicky Nicolai, passing through the duo composed of Fabrizio Bosso and Julian Oliver Mazzariello - as well as some of the most interesting representatives of the new singer-songwriter born in the shadow of Vesuvius, Francesco Di Bella, Giovanni Truppi and Giovanni Block and a DJ set by Sangennarobar.
The lighting of the buildings in Marina Grande, the location of the event, was evocative and could be appreciated from the entire Gulf of Naples, while two works by Australian Amanda Parer, a gigantic “Thinker” inspired by Rodin's famous sculpture, and a humanoid landed from afar and silently and sweetly exploring our planet, overlooking one of the historic buildings in the square, took shape, lighting up, before the eyes of the public.
“Once again, individual energy has become collective energy capable of giving life to creative processes,” explained the director of Procida 2022, Agostino Riitano.
"We believed in this project, at times utopian, from the very beginning, and we are proud of the progress made in this extraordinary year," said Rosanna Romano, Director General for Cultural Policies and Tourism of the Campania Region.
“In our year as Italian Capital of Culture – underlines the mayor of Procida, Dino Ambrosino – we have contributed to changing the paradigm of a country, Italy, which is starting to focus not only on the large cities of art, which have always attracted tourist flows, but also on the cultural heritage, both material and immaterial, spread throughout the small villages”.
On Wednesday 18 January, at 15 pm, the handover from Procida to Bergamo and Brescia, Italian Capitals of Culture in 2023, is scheduled at the Royal Palace in Naples, at the end of a talk that will summarise the events and numbers generated by the cultural programme.
