The driver, upon seeing them, accelerated despite having been ordered to stop.
A chase ensued during which the officers noticed that the passenger had gotten rid of a gun by throwing it on the road surface until, having reached Via Attila Sallustro, with the support of a patrol car from the Ponticelli Police Station, the two were reached, stopped and found in possession of two hats, a neck warmer and a pair of latex gloves.
The police subsequently recovered the weapon, a semi-automatic pistol, Sig Sauer model 9×21, with the serial number erased, and 10 cartridges, and carried out a search of the two men's homes, finding, in the passenger's home, a replica pistol with the barrel blocked and without the red cap.
AI and AS, aged 26 and 18 with previous police records, were arrested for possession and carrying of a clandestine weapon, resisting a public official and concealing a license plate; the 26-year-old was also charged with two violations of the Highway Code for driving without a license and for driving a vehicle already subject to administrative seizure.
The police are now continuing their investigations to understand the intentions of the two. In other words, what was their criminal mission: an ambush? A simple shooting? A robbery? In the meantime, the gun has been sent to the scientific section, which will have to establish whether it was used in recent criminal acts.
