An alleged trafficking of high-quality cars destined for recycling and export has been discovered by the Police of Orvieto who reported three French citizens for receiving stolen goods and seized three cars, while a fourth, following an alarm from the same Orvieto patrol, was stopped by colleagues from Arezzo.
The total value is around 1 million euros. They are prestigious models whose journey north on the A1 did not escape the attention of the officers, who, during one of the usual reconnaissances in the service areas, noticed them parked, with the three drivers outside, while a fourth car, always of the same “luxury” category, was at that moment resuming its journey.
The drivers, stopped for a check, all French citizens originally from North African countries (Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco), with the utmost peace of mind - the police reports - were able to demonstrate that they had rented the cars in Campania through rental contracts.
Not satisfied with the explanations given by the three, the officers radioed the other patrols to request that they track down the car they had seen driving away shortly before, which, a few minutes later, was stopped by the officers from Arezzo.
The investigations, still ongoing, have revealed that a car rental company in the Naples area had unduly appropriated the cars, in the last months of 2022, together with 12 others of the same category, for a total value of approximately 4 million euros, and that in turn it had rented them from another company in the Frosinone area.
The other elements that have emerged, on which the investigators are working, also regarding the rental and sub-rental conditions, have led to the hypothesis of numerous crimes in addition to that of misappropriation (which would appear to be one of the "minor" ones) with the intervention of numerous people, both Italian and foreign, even in other countries.
