On Saturday 28 January, at 21pm, with “Sepè le Mokò” the musician remembers the Prince of Laughter and his films.
“The Dadaist adventures of Totò and his supporting actors, such as Peppino De Filippo, Vittorio Gassman, Nino Taranto and Aldo Fabrizi – explains Sepe –, they are so intense and fast that most of the time we pay little attention to what happens underneath, to the amazing scores that underline the tragicomic comedy of the scripts, and so we lose sight of a precious element: composers of the calibre of Piero Piccioni, Armando Trovajoli, Lelio Luttazzi, Carlo Rustichelli, Alessandro Cicognini and Piero Umiliani had a powerful jazz background behind them".
“What is amazing, listening to the soundtrack alone – continues the musician –, it is the quality of the interventions of the performers that follow one another in the solos, because a lot of music is pure and simple be bop, often declined in its west coast variant, and it is surprising to recognize figures of the calibre of Chet Baker or Gerry Mulligan talking to the characters of the films".
Accompanying Sepe's sax are Mario Nappi (piano and keyboards), Aldo Capasso (double bass and electric bass), Paolo Forlini (drums), Antonello Iannotta (percussion), Alessandro Tedesco (trombone) and Federico Luongo (guitar).
The production is by Ufficio K.
