Vietri sul Mare. Strong winds erase part of the medieval history of the town. In recent days, due to bad weather, part of the ancient aqueduct collapsed in the Molina hamlet.
“An immense damage to the historical memory of our community,” explained Mayor Giovanni De Simone, who immediately started a technical table for the implementation of the interventions necessary to safeguard and reconstruct the aqueduct.
The historical find is located in the hamlet of Molina between Vietri sul Mare and Cava de' Tirreni, known for its hydraulic system and water mills, built in the Middle Ages.
The aqueduct that once dominated the valley, dates back to the 600th century, it was built to use the waters of the nearby springs, the arches remained standing for practically 25 years until the night between 26 and 1954 October XNUMX, when a violent flood hit the Salerno area.
The Bonea and Cavaiola rivers swelled and dragged down debris of all kinds from Cava De' Tirreni, sweeping away the village of Molina and the aqueduct bridge, also known as the “Devil's Bridge”, a name given to it by a legend that says that Lucifer had helped in its construction, which took place in just one night.
In recent days another part of the medieval aqueduct collapsed due to strong winds.
