Andrea Agnelli, former president of Juventus, spoke about his farewell to the Bianconeri club in an exclusive interview given to the Dutch newspaper Telegraaf.

Agnelli: "I wasn't listened to, I couldn't defend myself."

"The Italian Federation imposed the suspension on me after studying the Department of Justice investigation. But I was not heard and was unable to defend myself. My resignation was the result of a criminal investigation involving me personally."

"I can't say much about this because the case is still ongoing. The first preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 27th. At that point, a decision will be made as to whether the case should be adjourned or not."

"I don't want the Juventus take on this burden for all this time - he added -. A new board of directors can better represent the club and has nothing to do with the accusations. Furthermore, I am free to defend myself in court against any accusation. My return to football? Only the future will know what the future holds. We'll see. For now, I'm just a regular fan.

Agnelli: "Super League? We were ready in 2019..."

On the Super League he added: "In 2019 we were ready, Aleksander (Ceferin, ed.) and I. The top clubs from all the ECA leagues (around 130 European professional clubs at the time) agreed on a new format."

"Medium-sized clubs in the major leagues, top league officials, and some federations saw the new format as a threat. For this reason, Ceferin backed out."

The clubs were in favor of a renewed and improved European football system. When UEFA put a spoke in the wheels, plans emerged outside UEFA to organize a new competition with all ECA clubs. Whether this ultimately takes hold will depend in part on the European Court of Justice.

"The suspension was imposed on me by the Italian Federation, but I wasn't heard and couldn't defend myself. My resignation was prompted by a criminal investigation involving me, but I can't say much about it because the proceedings are still ongoing and the first hearing will be on March 27."

"I don't want Juventus to carry this burden for so long. A new board of directors can better represent the club and has nothing to do with the accusations. Furthermore, I am free to defend myself in court against any accusation.". On one of his return since Calcium in the future, he added: "Only the future knows what the future holds. We'll see.".
