The Nest Theatre plays its first ace: on Monday, February 20, “An Evening at the Nest with” Alessio Boni and Marcello Prayer returns in “Canto degliEsclusi,” a concert for the duo for Alda Merini.
By and with Alessio Boni and Marcello Prayer
A concerted work so crazy, difficult, rare, alienating, unusual, that it forces an audience to dedicate itself for an hour and a half to poetry alone… Alessio Boni and Marcello Prayer investigate with sensitivity and interpretative intelligence, between deliriums, lullabies, songs, revelations and apparitions, between bitter awareness and instinctive happiness, that mental space of Merini that bursts into fantasy and the primary impulses of the soul, with the free words of true poetry.
"If a poet donates his papers with the intention of sharing his suffering, his anxieties, his thousand souls, others should thank him because, with eyes rarefied by madness, he is watching their destiny for them too. The leaves of destiny are wandering, flowing, and full of hidden kisses" (from Alda Merini, Reato di vita – Autobiografia e poesia).
"After Pavese and Pasolini," Boni and Prayer explain, " we chose to continue the play of Poetry in the naked stage with Alda Merini, where our voices alternate and intertwine (as always) to become One, marking the rhythm of her verse, so intensely emotional, within the throng of contradictions that inhabited her. We imagined listening to her voice dictate to us, like the ancient rhapsodists, the book of poetry to be put into voice: thus was born the need for this other journey that we now propose."
