2023 brings important news for “Voci per la libertà – Una canzone per Amnesty”. The festival that unites music and human rights, now in its 26th edition, in fact from this year moves to the city of Rovigo, the capital of Polesine, which had already hosted events of the festival in previous years but which will now be the highlight of the event.
The event is scheduled for July 21-23, but as always there will be previous and subsequent events that will be particularly significant this year and will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, work is starting on the first phases of the two now historic Amnesty International Italy Awards for the best songs, hosted by the festival: one for the emerging section and one for the big section.
For the emerging section, the competition announcement for the new edition is online, in which singer-songwriters and bands can participate with a song about human rights, in any language or dialect and of any musical genre. The deadline for the announcement is set for Saturday, April 22, with the added opportunity of the “Amnesty Youth Award” for registrations arriving by Monday, March 20, among which one of the eight semifinalists will be selected.
Of these, four will perform in Rovigo on Friday 21 July and four the following day. The best five will advance to the final on the 23rd. The artists (who will be provided with room and board) will be evaluated by a jury composed of important industry insiders and journalists, who will award the Amnesty International Italy Prize for the Emerging Artists section.
The winner will be entitled to many bonuses, such as the production of a video clip and, together with the other finalists, inclusion in an album or playlist together with the big names. Other bonuses will be gradually defined. For example, for some of the finalists of the past years there have been dozens of concerts and musical workshops, a tour made possible thanks to NUOVO IMAIE and constant communication of the various initiatives.

For the Big section, you can simply report to info@vociperlaliberta.it, by March 20, songs that were published between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022, that are performed by a well-known Italian artist and that deal with themes related to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. A commission composed of representatives of Amnesty International Italy and Voci per la Libertà will select ten. The nominations will then be submitted to a jury of important professionals (journalists, radio and television hosts, university professors, scholars, intellectuals, representatives of Amnesty International Italy and Voci per la Libertà), who will elect the Amnesty International Italy Award, Big section, 2023 from among the nominated songs. Over the years, the following have won this award: Daniele Silvestri, Ivano Fossati, Modena City Ramblers, Paola Turci, Samuele Bersani, Subsonica, Vinicio Capossela, Carmen Consoli, Simone Cristicchi, Fiorella Mannoia and Frankie hi-nrg mc, Enzo Avitabile and Francesco Guccini, Max and Francesco Gazzè, Mannarino, Edoardo Bennato, Nada Malanima, Brunori Sas, Roy Paci, Niccolò Fabi, Negramaro and Carmen Consoli again.

The 2022 Voci per la libertà ended with the creation of the USB bracelet version of the collection of the 25th edition of the festival, which collects songs by the protagonists of the festival. Opening the tracklist are Carmen Consoli and Lorenzo Lepore, the two winners of the Award last year. Then the guests of the festival and the finalists of the emerging section alternate.

A musical snake that starts from the climax of the festival in Rosolina Mare at the end of July and then includes the protagonists of the musical events preceding the General Assembly of Amnesty Italy in Verona, inside the prison of Rovigo and in the previews of Rovigo and Adria up to an evening concert in Montagnana in September.
