As part of the device to combat illicit trafficking, the finance police of the Provincial Command of Naples have seized over 17 thousand liters of contraband ethyl alcohol coming from Poland.
During the daily checks carried out along the main roads of the province, a suspicious van was identified that was headed to a storage area located in the municipality of Nola, owned by a company operating in the logistics sector.
The check of the vehicle allowed the discovery of over 4 thousand litres of alcohol inside the rear compartment, not accompanied by regular transport documentation.
The inspection activities, extended to the entire storage area, allowed the discovery of a further 13 thousand litres of contraband alcohol.
The driver of the vehicle and the owner of the area, the latter lacking the authorizations for the storage of the particular product, were reported at large to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Nola for the crime of evading the assessment and payment of the excise duty on alcohol and alcoholic beverages.
The illegal operation would have allowed the subtraction of approximately 225.000 euros from the treasury coffers, including excise duties and VAT.
The service activity, carried out by the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Naples, demonstrates the constant commitment of the Guardia di Finanza in combating the smuggling of products intended for consumption which, in addition to being potentially risky for health, damage the market and take away opportunities and work from companies that operate legally.
