In accordance to reported by Red Hot Cyber, on the day of the great cyber attack that hit Italy there was a successful attack at the Federico Secondo University of Naples. The news of the successful ransomware attack was verified thanks to a large-scale infected page detection system that reported the ransomware infection on a PC in the network and, out of 19 successful attacks, one of these was from the prestigious university.
Digital matrix contacted two sources within the university who confirmed the infection, explaining however that the target hit was not a strategic server in the network because it was of the "sandbox" type and precisely a test environment, often disconnected from the normal flow of environments set up for the development and testing of applications.
The news of the attack is therefore correct, as is the ransom demand, but it is important to point out that the target hit was actually a jar of honey artfully placed by the academics to lure the attackers into a trap.
