“I have chills! We have reopened the construction site of the new Baia station. A dream awaited for more than 30 years. I dedicate this day to all my peers, to all the tens of thousands of Bacolesi scattered around the world, who have been forced to emigrate.

To run away from Bacoli, because this city was not capable of offering him a job opportunity. Because this land was not able to valorize its enormous cultural heritage”.

Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, mayor of Bacoli, wrote this on social media, who this morning was at the reopening of the construction site for the new station, work on which had been at a standstill since 2012.

“We are turning the page with the facts”, he says. “The restart of work at the Cumana station in Baia, after an infinite time of litigation, once again opens the doors of our land to normality, to modernity, to the true relaunch of tourism. In half an hour by train, from Montesanto, from Naples, you can go directly to the Submerged Archaeological Park of Baiae. The largest in the Mediterranean.

You will be able to visit the Temple of Venus, that of Diana, that of Mercury, the Imperial Palace, the Aragonese Castle, the Archaeological Museum of the Phlegraean Fields. And then Villa Ferretti, the Federico II University. By the end of 2024, the station will be open to everyone. Residents, tourists, citizens, students, workers. It will be the third station of our city, the first, coming from Naples”.

The mayor thanked “the Governor of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca”, he writes, in a working friendship between the two that was also ironically underlined by De Luca at the end of his speech, when, turning from the stage to Della Ragione, he said, commenting on his long hair: “I offered him my barber for free but then I understood that it became a reason for identity. He's a 'son of a bitch', when we did initiatives in Procida with him, he also became a kind of brand, the long-haired one. I'm joking but we have a great sense of friendship".

The mayor also thanked the other managers of the sector: "Together - he wrote - we have made a civic and administrative miracle. This morning we have written a page of history of epochal value".
