A mother and her 5-month-old son , wet and cold, were trapped in the elevator of the "Poseidon" swimming pool in Santa Maria Capua Vetere , in the province of Caserta . They were freed only after 40 minutes , thanks to the intervention of firefighters.
Stuck in an elevator for 40 minutes, the misadventure in the swimming pool
It happened on Saturday morning. The two were at the pool for a trial lesson of a newborn aquatics course, along with the baby's father and grandmother . After diving into the pool, the woman and the baby headed to the changing rooms , located on the basement level, one floor below the pool.
Wearing a bathrobe and slippers , with the baby in her arms, the mother decided it was safer to take the elevator down a floor than to walk down, which would have put her at risk of slipping. A few seconds after pressing the -1 button , the problem occurred : the elevator stopped.
The intervention of the firefighters of the Caserta Command
After the first few minutes of uncertainty on the part of the employees of the sports facility, the tension rose when the woman reported that she was trapped inside with a baby of a few months , both of them wet and cold.
The Caserta Fire Department responded to the scene , alerted by the child's grandmother. The operation lasted about 40 minutes in total. It appears this wasn't the first time the pool elevator had failed.
