The boys from the Naples Penal Area, accompanied by Navy divers and Mare Nostrum instructors, cleaned the seabed of the Borgo dei Marinari.
The dive began from the dock of the Circolo Savoia and involved part of the body of water of the Santa Lucia marina; the Military Corps of the Order of Malta and volunteers from Archeoclub D'Italia also took part in the operation. A trolley, a chair, tires, cell phones and numerous glass bottles were “fished” from the seabed. “We are happy to have done something for the community,” declared the boys from the Penal Area of Naples, coming out of the water. “It makes us feel better about ourselves.”
Present were the city councilors Vincenzo Santagada and Antonio De Iesu, and Stefano Sorvino of Arpac Campania. “It is an initiative as important as it is symbolic because we are in the territory of Megaride – said Vincenzo Santagada, councilor for Greenery of the Municipality of Naples – a symbolic area of our city. We are trying to sensitize our reality to the protection of the environment”.
“Circolo Savoia is fortunate to have members present from civil society: entrepreneurs, professionals, company directors who participate in the development of the city – stated Fabrizio Cattaneo della Volta, president of Circolo Savoia – with their professional activity. All together, in this club, we have decided to do something for the city. And we do it every day with social and sports activities. Supporting the kids from the Penal Area was a real pleasure. An event, that of the cleaning of the seabed, which also ties us to the past, to our predecessor, Pippo Dalla Vecchia, who in 1992 organized the first cleaning of the seabed of Borgo Marinari”.
“The Military Corps of the Order of Malta provided medical support to ensure the operation was carried out in maximum safety – said Mariano Barbi, Captain of the Military Corps of the Order of Malta – for the children and the operators”.
“The Navy recently signed a collaboration agreement with the Department of Juvenile Justice that finds its first practical application right here in Naples. There is an agreement with the Juvenile Justice Center – recalled Aniello Cuciniello, Captain of the Navy – with a wide-ranging “Bust Busters” project that includes the recovery of areas of Naples but also includes an introduction to sea professions with the training of young people”.
“A wonderful experience with exceptional guys – underlined Rosario Santanastasio, national president of Archeoclub D'Italia who today dived with the young people of the Penal Area of Naples – for a cause that we have been advocating for a long time: protection of the Parthenope site and these guys have taught us how to clean the seabed. The “Bust Busters” project includes a training course, of knowledge of the environmental and cultural heritage”.
"The Free University of Bolzano has asked to have the plastic finds brought to light by the boys from the Penal Area of Naples. The plastic recovered by our boys will become curtains on display at the Furniture Fair. There will also be the boys from the Penal Area of Naples, who have become divers thanks to the "Bust Busters" project and the new ones who will now begin the training course to obtain the diving license", announced Giuseppe Centomani, director of the Juvenile Justice Center of Campania.
