The INAIL data on workplace accidents in Campania for 2022 still paints a negative picture. The report was the subject of a study day this morning organized by Coldiretti Campania, through the Epaca patronage, with the regional leaders of the National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work.

The past year is the first for which it is possible to analyze data alleviated by the Covid tsunami, which caused injuries to skyrocket in 2020/21, particularly in healthcare professions. In 2022, total workplace accident reports in Campania reached 33, involving nearly 26 workers in the industrial and service sectors. Specifically, there were approximately 5 cases in industry, over 800 in the artisanal sector, and over 6 in the service sector.

Among public employees and other sectors, over 6 accidents have been reported.

Finally, in agriculture, there are just over a thousand cases of workplace accidents. If we analyze the reports by province, there are 1.666 cases in Irpinia, 1.475 in Sannio, 4.483 in Caserta, 16.735 in Naples, and 8.729 in Salerno. Adjusting these data to the resident population—based on data from Coldiretti Campania—the highest incidence of accidents is in the province of Salerno with 0,82% of cases, followed by Naples and Benevento with 0,56%, Caserta with 0,50%, and Avellino with 0,41%.

In 2022, there were 91 workplace accidents resulting in fatalities in Campania, including 9 in agriculture. The study day with INAIL took place in the meeting room of the Campagna Amica covered market in Naples, located in San Paolo Park in Fuorigrotta. The Institute's technical staff was led by Director Grazia Memmolo, who was thanked by Coldiretti Regional Director Salvatore Loffreda. Among the discussions, the available funding for the integration or reintegration of people with work-related disabilities into the workforce was specifically addressed, allowing companies to invest in removing architectural barriers and adapting machinery.

The ISI 2022 call for proposals is also active, allocating €35 million in non-repayable grants to agricultural businesses investing in prevention. The call for proposals allows for the purchase of new machinery and equipment that can reduce emissions, improve yield and sustainability, and reduce noise and injury risks. Of these funds, €10 million is reserved for farmers under 40.

Coldiretti, Director Loffreda emphasizes, continues to focus on training and informing EPACA workers to ensure agricultural businesses and agricultural workers receive the best assistance through welfare services. We believe in the social value of accident prevention, which means improving workers' well-being and strengthening the agricultural sector, which has never stopped, not even during the COVID storm, to ensure agri-food production.
